In 1951 Mother Teresa was honoured with Indian citizenship for her humanitarian work. First hospice for incurable ill Nirmal Hriday (Pure Heart) was opened in 1952 on August 22 during the holiday Bezgresno srce Bogorodicino. This holiday is also known as a holiday on the congregation itself.
From the year 1953 begins with the opening of clinics which provide medical assistance to the poor. Same year she moved into a new house so called Motherhouse, which is the centre of the order.
In May 1959 opens the first mission outside of Calcutta, in the Ranch.
During her life she often travels out of India to promote the humanitarian mission in front of the world.
Her first such trip was in October in 1960 in Las Vegas, USA to attend the conference of the National Council of Catholic Women.
During her life receives more than 700 awards, the first of all was Padma Shri Award which was awarded by the President of India in 1962.
As part of the expansion of the activities of the mission, on March 25, 1963 was established Missionaries of Charity Brothers. After the disastrous earthquake in Skopje on July 1963, she appeals the world for solidarity.
By increasing the number of donations and candidates the last 60 years of the 20 century the order has opened orphanages and homes for people sick of leprosy across India. Next idea of Mother Teresa's mission was expanding beyond the borders of India and opening other houses in other countries around the world .So at the end of February 1, 1965, Pope Paul VI issued a decree that the order of the missionaries of charity became International religious family, directly under the Pontifical jurisdiction (Institute of pontifical right directly under the authority of the Holy See) - receives pontifical recognition. The first such mission was opened on July 26 in Venezuela.
Her work was respected by Pope Paul VI, who in 1971 awarded her with Peace Prize “Pope John XXIII ".
Each the number of the members was increased, so till 1975 the order has over 1000 personnel in 85 foundations in 15 countries worldwide.
Her humanitarian work has been recognized worldwide, resulting in receiving Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Today there are more than 5000 sisters, and more than 600 hundred brothers all over 133 countries in the world.
